IVORY COAST - Appointment of the Bishop of Yamoussoukro, Joseph Kakou Aka
Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Rev. Joseph Kakou Aka, of the clergy of Grand-Bassam, currently Secretary General of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa as Bishop of the diocese
of Yamoussoukro (Ivory Coast).
His Exc. Msgr. Joseph Kakou Aka was born on 17 August 1967 in Assinie, in the diocese of Grand-Bassam. After attending the Minor Seminary in Yopougon and the St. Peter Regional Major Seminary in Pedu, in Cape Coast (Ghana), he obtained a bachelor's degree in sociology at the State University of Accra.
He was ordained a priest on July 23, 1994 for the diocese of Grand-Bassam.
He has held the following offices and carried out further studies: Assistant parish priest and then parish priest of the parish of Saint Antoine de Padoue in Moosou (1994-1999); licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Catholic University of West Africa (1999-2001); interim secretary of the Ivorian Episcopal Conference (2001-2002); Studies for the Licentiate in Biblical Exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome (2002-2006); Director of the Biblical Apostolate (2007-2012); Adjunct Secretary of the Regional Episcopal Conference of West Africa - CERAO/RECOWA (2012-2018) and, since 2018, Secretary General.
NIGERIA - Appointment of the Bishop of Warri, Anthony Ovayero Ewherido
Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido as the new Bishop-elect of the Catholic Diocese of Warri (Nigeria). Anthony Ovayero Ewherido, of the same clergy, currently Rector of the SS. Peter and Paul interdiocesan Major Seminary, Ibadan.
His Exc. Msgr. Anthony Ovayero Ewherido was born on October 8, 1960 in Eghwu, in the Diocese of Warri.
After attending the Minor Seminary in Effurun, he completed his philosophical and theological studies at the SS. Peter and Paul Major Seminary in Ibadan. He later earned his Doctorate in Biblical Studies at St 'John's University and Fordham University in New York. Subsequently, he also obtained a diploma from the Pontifical Ateneo Regina Apostolorum in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 18 October 1986, incardinated in the Diocese of Warri.
He has held the following offices: assistant parish priest of St. Jude's in Effurun (1986-1987); Rector of the Holy Martyr's of Uganda Minor Seminary in Effurun (1988-1992); Parish priest of the Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church in Effurun (1992-1994); residential priest with pastoral duties at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Floral Park (1994-2005) and at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Coram, New York (1995-2006); Chaplain at Stony Brook University Medical Center in Stony Brook, NY (1995-2006); Parish priest of the Sacred Heart in Abraka, Nigeria (2006-2007); since 2007, Formator and Lecturer at the SS. Peter and Paul Interdiocesan Major Seminary in Ibadan; Vice-rector of the SS. Peter and Paul interdiocesan Major Seminary (2013-2019); Lecturer at the Dominican Institute in Samonda, Ibadan (2013-2021); since 2019, Rector of the SS Peter and Paul interdiocesan Major Seminary.
