SOUTH AFRICA - Appointment of the Bishop of Kokstad

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Fr. Thulani Victor Mbuyisa, C.M.M., currently Superior General of the Mariannhill Missionaries as Bishop of the Diocese of Kokstad (South Africa).
His Exc. Msgr. Thulani Victor Mbuyisa, C.M.M, was born on February 13, 1973 in Exobho, in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal, Archdiocese of Durban. He entered the Congregation of Mariannhill Missionaries in 1992, and made his perpetual vows on February 2, 1997. He studied Philosophy (1994-96) and Theology (1996-99) at St. Joseph's Theological Institute of Cedara in South Africa. He was ordained a priest on March 4, 2000, and has held the following positions: Parish Vicar of St. Michael's Mission, Chaplain of Mangosuthu University of Technology and of St. Francis College of Mariannhill and Vice-Director of Novices (2001-2002); Licentiate in Canon Law from Saint Paul University in Ottawa, Canada (2002-2004); Chaplain of Mangosuthu University of Technology and Vice-Director of Novices (2005-2007); Superior and formator at the Nivard House in Nairobi, Kenya (2007-2010); Provincial Superior of the Mariannhill Missionaries in East Africa, Nairobi, Kenya (2010); Councilor and Secretary General (2010-2012), Vicar General and Procurator of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Mariannhill (2012-2016). Since October 2016 he has been Superior General of the same Congregation. 

 

KENYA - Appointment of the Bishop of Lodwar

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has appointed Fr. John Mbinda, C.S.Sp., former Provincial Superior of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in Kenya and South Sudan, as Bishop of the Diocese of Lodwar (Kenya).

His Exc. Msgr. John Mbinda, C.S.Sp., was born on May 5, 1973 in Machakos. After attending the Pope Paul VI Junior Seminary in the Diocese of Machakos (1989-1992), he entered the Congregation of the Holy Spirit and made his perpetual vows on October 12, 2001. He studied Philosophy (1993-1996) at the Spiritan Missionary Seminary in Tanzania and Theology at Tangaza University College in Nairobi (1997-2002).

He was ordained a priest on May 18, 2002 and since his ordination he has held the following positions: Parish Vicar of the Tangulbei Catholic Mission (2002-2004) and Parish Priest of the Kositei Catholic Mission in the Diocese of Nakuru (2004-2008); Master's Degree in Development Studies at the Kimmage Development Studies Center, Ireland (2008-2010); Parish priest of St. Austin's Parish in the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi and Head of the Development Office of his Congregation (2010-2015); Provincial Superior of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in Kenya and South Sudan (2015-2021). Since August 2021 he has spent a sabbatical period in the Archdiocese of Southwark, England, and was Parish Assistant in St. Chad's Parish, entrusted to the Spiritan Fathers. Furthermore, he was Professor at Tangaza University College (2014-2017); President of the Union of the Circumscriptions of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost in East Africa - UCEAF (2015-2016) and Consultor for the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi.

MOZAMBIQUE - Resignation of the Bishop of Inhambane and appointment

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Inhambane (Mozambique) presented by His Exc. Msgr. Adriano Langa, O.F.M.. The Holy Father has appointed Bishop of the same Diocese, His Exc. Msgr. Ernesto Maguengue, currently titular bishop of Fornos minor and Auxiliary of Nampula.
