In October the second conference of the "Santa Marta group" on human trafficking to be held in Nairobi

Nairobi (Agenzia Fides) - "Making local communities and the government aware of the dangers of human trafficking": is the theme of the second African conference of the "Santa Marta group" to be held in Kenya from 1 to 4 October 2019 at the Dimesse Sisters Spiritual Center Karen, in Nairobi.

The president of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), His Exc. Mgr. Philip Anyolo, Archbishop of Kisumu, said that the conference offers participants the opportunity to learn from each other, to develop partnerships against slavery and find practical and effective ways, adapted to the specific African realities, to face the crisis of human trafficking on the continent.

Under the leadership of its President, His Eminence Cardinal Vincent Gerard Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, the Santa Marta group is a global alliance of police leaders, bishops and religious communities working in collaboration with civil society in the fight against human trafficking, labeled by Pope Francis as "a crime against humanity".

The Group takes its name from the residence of Pope Francis where the founding members of the Network stayed in 2014 before signing, in the presence of the Holy Father, a historical declaration. The Group currently has members in over 30 countries.
