Communiqué of the bishops of Algeria
The celebration of the Beatification of Bishop Claverie and his 18 companions will take place on Saturday, December 8, 2018, Marian Solemnity, in the Basilica of Santa Cruz in Oran. It is with great joy that we share this good news for our Church of Algeria.
We express our gratitude to Father Thomas Georgeon ocso, postulator of the cause. It is he, along with others - including brother Giovanni Bigotto (+), a Marist - who has done all the work that made it possible to reach this point. We have a few weeks left to prepare for this celebration, to remember the whole life and work of our 19 brothers and sisters in Algeria for the little ones, the sick, men, women and young Algerians. Cardinal Angelo Becciu, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, was appointed by Pope Francis to be his Personal Envoy.
Monseigneur Pierre Claverie, Brother Henri Vergès, Sister Paul-Hélène Saint-Raymond, Sister Esther Paniagua Alonso, Sister Caridad Alvarez Martin, Father Jean Chevillard, Father Alain Dieulangard, Father Charles Deckers, Father Christian Chessel, Sister Angèle-Marie Littlejohn, Sister Bibiane Leclercq, Sister Odette Prévost, Brother Luc Dochier, Brother Christian de Chergé, Brother Christophe Lebreton, Brother Michel Fleury, Brother Bruno Lemarchand, Brother Célestin Ringeard, Brother Paul Favre-Miville will be given to us as intercessors and models of Christian life, friendship and fraternity, encounter and dialogue. May their example help us in our life today. From Algeria, their beatification will be for the Church and for the world, an impetus and a call to build together a world of peace and fraternity.
